Ruffles and Lace - Valentino

Wednesday, July 14th 2010

Valentino known for elegant and feminine appeal, seemed to disappointingly take a much more youthful route in hopes of attracting a "new clientele" during their couture show.

The craftsmanship of the entire collection was beautifully done - and the silhouettes were beautiful - taking inspiration from the 60's (as are many designers this fall).

What I find disappointing is the fact that for couture shows - most people expect to see drama, flair, and "over the top" creations that fill your imagination. Dior's show would be a perfect example. At best, this collection just made me think, "Oh, that's pretty". Inspiration and imagination have yet to kick in from seeing the collection.

Like many of the trends for this fall, the collection is filled with neutrals - mostly in an array of black and soft ivory's. Beautifully done and very wearable throughout the season - this collection is filled with ruffles, lace and bows - very youthful, feminine and elegant. At least some of the Valentino roots were there.

A gorgeous collection, but a little disappointing for couture if you ask me. This line screams more ready-to-wear in my opinion. What do you think?

Warmest wishes,
