Andre Leon Talley - a memoir

Saturday, April 3rd 2010

Recently I had been given the recommendation to read André Leon Talley's memoir. I personally am a huge fan of him - always have been. I adore reading his coloum, StyleFax in the pages of Vogue (my most favorite fashion magazine!). I find his writing style very relatable, and easy to read.

Its odd that I had never picked up his book - but I suppose it's better late than never. Especially now that he has released a second book.

His memoir I thought was beautiful. It was a beautiful tribute to his childhood and upbringing - detailing much of his relationship with his grandmother and also the past editor-in-chief of Vogue, Diana Vreeland.

It was wonderful to hear that a man now, often surrounded by beautiful and superficial people and things in the fashion industry could once before appreciate simple things such as, "crisp, white sheets" his grandmother ironed and put meticulously on his bed. It was quite refreshing to read of his simple upbringing and all of the small things in life he cherishes most - things most people fail to recognize.

After reading his memoir, it was clear that Andre is not only a man of great style, class,  and elegance - but a good friend and warm human being.

I highly recommend it.

Have you read his memoir? What did you think?

Warmest wishes,
