Mix n' Match
Tuesday, June 1st 2010
Many women can attest to the fact that they’ve had mornings where they prep for the day and upon opening their closet sigh, and say, “I have nothing to wear”. Despite the fact that to a stranger, our closets may look full – we still end up feeling less than pleased about our current wardrobe choices.
This takes place because when shopping, we choose pieces that grab our attention rather than thinking about the value that piece will add to our wardrobe and style – resulting in an impulse purchase we’ll kick ourselves later for.

The key is to create a situation in your wardrobe where most things mix and match! Though it may sound like a lot of work, it’s actually quite simple, and will end up saving you time and money in the long run. Does mix and matching mean boring? Absolutely not! It will actually ensure that you have plenty of clothing options and multiple style choices!
Did you know that something as simple as 6 pieces can give you as many as 6-12 outfits? 12 pieces will give you 48-72 outfits, and 18 can give you 162-216 outfits to wear! AMAZING!
Here are a few things to help you create this situation:
1) You’ll need to bottoms – they can be skirts, trousers, jeans, shorts, or whatever you like. I suggest neutral colours as they’re easier for pairing (prints are okay in neutrals too).
2) Select three tops – I recommend choosing a top with some kind of fun print, and have the others be neutral or have colours that are shared in the top with print (this will keep harmony in the mix and matching and will make picking out accessories easier).
3) Select one or two pieces that can go on top such as a blazer and/or cardigan. You can choose to have these in neutrals, colours, or print (however, solid colours and neutrals will go a farther distance in your wardrobe without dating themselves).
4) Choose accessories, bags, and shoes to match.
Once you have completed this, you’ll be able to create multiple outfits! Each top can be paired with either bottom creating 6 outfits for you right away. Once you factor in the blazers and/or cardigan they’ll give you an additional 12 outfits if you’re able! The accessories will change the look of each.
If you start shopping this way and build your wardrobe in this manner you’ll kiss frustrating wardrobe woes goodbye!
